Civil Engineer Project Status in Palos Verdes Estates
We decided to drive around Sunday to look at some job sites to see where some of our civil engineer projects are at. Some are much farther along than others. I decided to start with a project in Palos Verdes Estates. The view is amazing.
Not only that but the house is beautiful. We stopped by to see how the construction from our civil engineer drainage plan was coming along. This site uses a series of catch basins on the backyard to drain towards the front where a pump will sit. This pump will outlet into the street. The most difficult part of the design was trying to collect the water to go somewhere without using a pump. This catch basin on the street goes through a pipe that outlets into the ocean down below the cliff. We were attempting to hook directly into this storm drain except the depth and position was a bit unknown. Even looking at older storm drain plans when the pipe was constructed, the pipe wasn’t similar. So instead of trying to dig down a possible 20-40 feet to locate the storm drain pipe we decided using a pump would be easier. The nice thing about this design was that we were able to design a pump failure into the pipe system. If the pump were to fail, the catch basins on the backyard would overflow and drain back down the original natural path on the back of the property. Otherwise during a normal rain storm with proper working pump, the eroding of the cliff would be halted.
