Project Overview

This Los Angeles project on Devlin Drive above the Sunset Strip involved a steep hillside property. The work included a new driveway apron and widening the existing driveway to improve access. Some existing walls were removed to accommodate the new driveway configuration while the main house remained.

A 2-story addition was built onto the existing structure, creating additional living space that stepped with the natural slope of the lot. The pool deck was flattened while keeping the existing pool, and a new cabana was added near the pool area.

For Low Impact Development, all additions and hardscape were piped to a plastic-lined rain garden that outlets to the street curbface. The rain garden was sized to handle approximately 2,500 square feet of proposed impervious area. Permeable paving was used for portions of the driveway to further reduce runoff and meet LA City LID requirements.

This project was featured in Dwell Magazine as "A Serene Sanctuary Above the Sunset Strip."
