Orange Grove Place

Grading, drainage, and LID design for 2-unit residential on sloped lot.

Grading and drainage plan for Orange Grove Place residential project showing contours, LID planter boxes, permeable paving, catch basins, and proposed structures

Project Overview

This South Pasadena project involved two residential units on a lot that slopes approximately 2% down from the rear to the street. The design utilized planter boxes for Low Impact Development stormwater management. Water collects in the lined planter boxes, sits for 48 hours to allow settling, then drains to the street rather than running off immediately.

The site layout features covered trellis parking in the center with additional parking in the rear. All drainage is collected through a series of catch basins that route water through pipes leading to the front of the property, where it outlets under the sidewalk to the curbface.

The existing driveway apron was kept in place, minimizing curb cuts and keeping with city requirements. The permeable paving areas further reduce runoff by allowing water to soak through the surface rather than running off.
