Residential on East Pine Street
Rough grading plan for a single-family residential fire rebuild following the Eaton Fire.
Project Overview
Single-family residential fire rebuild in Altadena following the Eaton Fire. The 0.4986-acre lot is the largest we've worked with in Altadena, sloping 17 feet from high at the rear to low at the street. This project required removing an existing pool and re-grading the land to prepare for the new construction. We used a maximum 5:1 slope and daylighted to the architect's designated starting point for the re-grade, filling the excavated lot and creating proper transitions to existing grades.
The grading plan sections document the pool removal with a 1:1 maximum cut slope and 1 foot of cover under the pool shell. Where vertical cuts were needed, we used a maximum 3-foot height to avoid the 1:1 cut extending into the neighboring property. The excavated pool and surrounding area were then filled using 5:1 maximum slopes extending toward the street until daylight was achieved. While this is a grading plan rather than a drainage plan, we still aim to keep slopes at 5:1 maximum whenever possible to minimize re-grading requirements and streamline the LA County approval process.
